Dark Wizard 48

No time to rest. We still have one more region to conquer before we reunite with the Shire team.

Though, come to think of it, the only flyer with us is Invye.

This area has a vast forest that will be difficult for our men to pass through. The nearest city lies to the northwest and has a regiment of skeletons led by a black bishop. The plan is to send our men there and then take the path to Sheena, thereby avoiding the forest entirely.

Siang 30th - Evening

A harpy swooped in to attack Ickiren. Strangely, she suddenly seemed to lose her energy.

Seizure warning!

The Vampire spell restores some of Amon's HP. He wasn't hurt in this case, though. The enemy has to be 4 hexes away or closer to use this spell.

It then felt the power of our berserkers.

Siang 30th - Night

The skeleton regiment decided to abandon the city it was guarding and advance on our castle.

Of course, our men ran into them and put a quick stop to that. Also, Kefkai earned a promotion.

+59 HP, +21 Attack, +3 Defense, +2 Mobility

Yumekai thought of using his favorite spell to take out the black bishop, but he opted for a lightning spell so that his magic would not harm Somma and Vespera.

Cela 1st - Morning

I can hardly believe it's been half a year since we've started. Time does fly...

And sometimes arrows don't fly. Somma's last few attacks have failed to meet their mark. I think he's worried about our elf-in-a-bottle. We will return her home, soon enough.

I just wanted to demonstrate that harpies can literally fly over the forest.

Kefkai's movement in the forest is surprisingly good, considering he is a dwarf.

Contrast with Zem, a human. In his defense, he is a class level behind Kefkai.

Cela 1st - Noon

Vespera liberated the northwest city, Runvail.

He's talking about the city at which we obtained our elf-in-a-bottle.

This is in reference to a quest in the desert area we just took. We will get to it later.

Ah, the tea from Sage is simply heavenly. I haven't had any since the war began. I wonder if I can put some into our budget... I deserve a luxury every now and then.

...

Even nature conspires against me.

In his foul mood, he refused to speak to anyone.

Well, at least Squishy is doing well.

Or is he?

74 damage to Squishy.

He's a strong pup; he'll survive.

A few hours of riding later, Vespera reached the town of Sage.

The only location we can visit.

Our druid, Rogutaan, volunteered a comment on this situation.

He said it's their own damn fault for living near a dormant volcano.

However, we do have the statue of Vulcan right here with us. We will give Vespera the order to return here and retrieve it. Hopefully it will be in time.

In other news, our liches are on the job and Squishy is taking a well-deserved break.

Oh, and it seems our troops have decided to enter the forest, since that is where Sheena's monsters are going.

Our king isn't idle, either.

This harpy got paralyzed by a lich's counterattack. That's actually happening a lot this battle. Both the wyrms and harpies like to use their special attack.

Cela 1st - Night

Level 1 earth can kill lesser harpies instantly.

Squishy is still resting.

Although Kefkai was gravely injured during the night, he bravely attacked the enemy bishop.

It was a great success. The king assented to healing him with magic for his efforts.

Cela 2nd - Morning

The enemy skeletons seem to know particularly well how to fight a skeletal dragon, and so Bones was given the order to fall back.

Skeleton warlords do ~50 damage to our dragons and Squishy, but only about 25 to everyone else.

Neither of Sairek's spells are very effective vs. the skeletons, but since he's already injured and only thunder can be cast at range, he'll be using that pretty much the entirety of this battle.

Defeating harpies is a two-step process: paralyze, and then earth dragon breath. The dragon breath alone is not enough.

It was only teleported 4 hexes away.

Though Invye saw an opening in the enemy lines,

she was told to stay back within our own ranks,

which allowed an easy victory. The warlock never had a chance to cast any magic.

Fluffy was told to take Bones' place to keep the skeletons from reaching our wizards.

This was an insta-kill on the monk.

Cela 2nd - Evening

Rogutaan's actions earlier in the evening led to him becoming the monsters' #1 enemy.

With a little help,

he was able to break free from the front-line to rest.

Another instakill - Euld's meteor strike.

It's Fluffy's turn to fall back. We don't have another dragon to take its place, but Link is nearby, ready to spring into action.

Cela 2nd - Evening

Vespera rushed her way to Sage. It must have been difficult, carrying a heavy statue all the way.

She reports a success! Though I doubt the people will be in the mood to make tea any time soon.

In other news, Ladywinter apparently came too close to Sheena.

Cela 2nd - Night

Vespera returned to Sage to let the people know it's safe to stay.

I assume it means healing magic, potions, and resting are more effective on the character with the ring, since there is no natural HP recovery. I guess that's another thing I'll have to test!

Ahhhhh, tea.

Really, do you think you should be telling someone from the Holy Army about your perversion of faith? Ah, well, it's none of my concern.

Kefkai helped Ladywinter get revenge on the enemy mage.

Then our king gave her emergency aid.

Hellburn is quite a proud dragon to so boldly walk up to Sheena and attack her!

Tadleer followed shortly behind to back him up.

Cela 3rd - Morning

Armed with tea - I should have asked her to buy more - Vespera returned to Runvail.

So, we have to decide who should challenge the earth spirit to learn the most powerful earth spell. Limelle comes to mind, but then she'd be unable to cast her earth magic at range. Sairek only just learned level 1 earth, and he's already got his eyes on the wind spell. Susan could do it, but she can't go on search parties because she is a special character, so I'd have to do it now.

We can also decide to have no one do it. It's not required to beat the game.

Hellburn then took a nap in Sheena's own castle.

Squishy is 3 for 3 on paralyzing these. Actually, he failed one earlier. So, 3 for 4.

Sairek really is intent on a rematch with the wind spirit.

Having little left to learn, Buklauu has started to dabble in transformation magic.

Cela 3rd - Evening

Finally, we reach the city Andrew is supposed to be in. I'm sure Susan will be delighted to see him again. Perhaps they are lovers...? Ah, it's none of my business.

A curse? Priests can curse?

Sure thing!

I'm not sure what definition of beauty he is using.

Russell. I've checked my map, and

it's farther north.

There is also a mountain town not far east of Sheena's castle. Kefkai liberated it.

He must be talking about the mayor of Runvail. How I envy him his tea.

Kefkai says the man wouldn't explain further.

Blah blah Dandalea

Teydon mentioned again, hmm.

Sacrificing goats, eh? I hope it's not people transformed into goats. Limelle may have to be given a lecture if we head that way.

The map puts that city to the northeast. That's quite far.

Oh, and an enemy dragon that had been paralyzed by one of our liches apparently recovered and decided to come after our castle! Maybe it was inspired by Hellburn.

(Fire Arrow spell. He learned it recently)

Sheena's forces did not last much longer.

She retreated.

All-in-all, an easy victory. And now, Sheena has only one stronghold left.
