Cela 7th

The king decided we should continue the battle, although our men sent out on travels have hardly walked out the door.

i.e. they won't be with us on this map because they are still on search party.

The final demon lord is Karmak. Eyewitnesses say that half of his body is perpetually on fire. He is also a humanoid feline. A flaming tiger.

As for support in the area. The nearest enemies are skeletons. No surprise. There is large island south of Karmak's castle, and our aerial scouts report there are two warlords occupying the castle and town there. Our plan is to ignore them unless Karmak calls them up to fight.

Cela 8th

Within a few hours, our men have basically plowed through the first skeleton.

Though Vespera was injured, she continued on.

A couple of dragons on the island have crossed over the sea to fight us, which saw Bones grow.

Vespera was healed 5 HP just for surviving the last turn because she is carrying the healing ring. Also note how under-equipped she is. 3 attack and 3 defense from her gear, so pitiful. Well, when the search parties come in after this map, we'll see everyone rearmed.

Karmak's reinforcements have arrived: a couple of cerberuses (cerberii?), a skeleton warlord, many death wyrms and an enchanter. One cerberus apparently saw our harpy as a threat.

Our last wyrm finally grew to adulthood.

Krief learned a new spell. Is he inspired by Euld or Limelle?

Funny thing: the real-life Euld had me create his second character, Krief, in the hopes he'd be a better healer than Euld. Well.....

The cerberus isn't taking any chances with that.

Lightning Bolt (level 3 thunder). About 80 damage to Maddimist.

Ice Arrow (level 3 ice). It doesn't do much damage to Squishy.

Fire Ball (level 2 fire). Again, not much damage to Squishy.

This did more than the two spells combined.

Squishy countered for about 50 damage. Not bad.

Pain has its rewards.

Both Squishy and Maddimist are hurt. The latter can't escape because the cerberus standing behind her is blocking her.

Now she can escape.

I wanted to show how useful liches are. There is a guide for this game I saw somewhere that says not to get liches.

Their success rate at paralysis at this point is about 4 in 5, and they do between 30-50 damage, too. They're rather tanky, too -- only Banquo has died so far in the whole game.

That guide is wrong, in my opinion.

+42 HP, +15 Attack, +2 Defense, +1 Mobility

Tremor (level 1 earth). Does 65 damage. Also has a cool sound effect; too bad you don't get to hear it. It's a fast BOOM sound.

[FREEZE IS USED.]

Niah is our highest level character (if you only count current level), and it shows!

'heart''s magic restores Krief.

And we cheaply remove the necromancer with Blade Storm.

An update on our dragons: they are still fighting the enemy dragon. Karmak has Megarestored it twice now.

End Turn

Where's Euld when you need him for counter-fire?

Cela 9th - Noon

Squishy has fallen. I can hardly believe it. That demon dog has wormed his way into our hearts. I know our king will be able to restore him once the fighting is over, but it's still hard to accept.

You have to understand. It's the most heartwarming thing to see that thing chase after a ball and not know which head to use. He'll trip over himself trying to decide in mid-run, and then you'll laugh, and... ah. But the battle is still going on.

Our liches got revenge, thereby preventing further tragedies.

Since a lich could not reach the last black bishop, our harpies were sent there instead. A dangerous move with the warlord so close.

Manticore is good vs. cerberus. I saw triple digits once. Just wanted to show it since they don't get much screentime.

More lich power. I think only one failed this turn.

Then the king decided to get revenge himself!

And we finally see Karmak in action.

He called flames from the ground burning our liches and his own men indiscriminately.

It looks like Melt Earth, but it's fire elemental -- which means it's much less of a threat, honestly. It does only about 35 damage to each unit in the area of effect.

The effort of casting such magic results in him being unable to call up new minions. Our harpies took advantage of that to start pelting him with ice.

The enemy warlord decided to rest instead of attacking either of them.

The enemy dragon has made an attempt at retreat.

Somma's recovered from his, er, affliction, and

Karmak was none too happy about it. It seems this feline fears hunters.

Cela 10th

The enemy dragon continues to retreat.

The enemy warlord is also making a run for it, heading south onto the island.

In fact, he is faster than the lich chasing him.

Firehaze finally puts the nail in the coffin on that death dragon. Though, being undead, I suppose that euphemism isn't appropriate for it.

It could have survived -- but at this point Karmak is too busy calling fire all around him to care about any of his minions.

Bones intercepted the warlord.

Drizzing finally caught up and ensured it would not escape.

It's time for our men to take down Karmak.

What with our dragons becoming so strong, we don't need Squishy to tank anymore.

Squishy ;_;

Our men made a valiant effort, but

Karmak effectively won this round.

All the demon lords have a minimum threshold of HP that they must keep or else they will use Megarestore on themselves at the start of their next turn. 218 is too low for this guy.

Also notice how much HP Karmak has (550) compared to Sheena (under 200). Karmak is quite tanky...

Ickiren earned a promotion for continuing to fight while on fire.

Now, Karmak is alone in the world.

It does not deter him from fighting back.

Cela 11th

This day saw, well.

What do you expect? Victory.

I promise to stop abusing Blade Storm in future updates.
