Scarn 27th - Evening

Our ghosts have been ordered to target the enemy berserker in the hopes of paralyzing it with fear, without success.

Conversely, Squishy's paralytic breath seems to be three times as powerful now.

Mega Restore is cast.

Since the enemy hydras seem to be hungry for Cerberus, the king has decided to use his healing magic on Squishy. I've noticed my liege seems to be reluctant to use healing magic. He prefers to use his magic for offensive purposes.

(i.e. Blade Storm, which I've been using to pick off near-dead hydras)

Oh, and Blizzard Breath doesn't actually do any damage. It just freezes units.

Scarn 27th - Night

The enemy berserker is so unafraid of our ghosts that he decided to take a nap.

Boxxy liberated the final town in this area. Here is the report.

Well, none of our mages specialize in fire magic. We do have a mage with goat magic. I wonder if there is a goat spirit somewhere.

What am I writing? I think I need to get some rest.

(some time later)

Ah, in fact my records tell me that Yumekai is the only one with a fire spell, but since he only learned magic a couple of weeks ago, I would not say he's ready to be tested on it.

I may as well 'spoil' it. The most powerful spell for each element is the "Summon X-elemental Spirit" spell, which you can attempt to get after four lengthy quests (one for each element). When we actually get as far as unlocking these quests, I'll talk more about the advantages and disadvantages of these spells.

One of them is required to beat the game. The others are optional.

Honestly, the Shinobi are just another myth, like the Sharktans. People are so superstitious these days. I am ready to bet half of them truly expect Vian to fly out of a cave somewhere where he had been hiding for the last few hundred years, just waiting to be a hero again.

Sigh.

So, we need to keep an eye out for a Shinobi Shuriken or something. Though in all honesty, bluffing that you're a ninja to other ninja doesn't sound very smart to me!

Translation: "In a map or two"

Boxxy decided to use some of his allowance to get his horoscope read.

The fortune teller will give you a hint about gameplay or quests for a random cost of 5-30 gold. Let's do it, what the heck. We can afford it!

I, uh, I want my money back.

38 damage to Euld

Interestingly, Euld was not confused. This is probably because he is already frozen.

35 damage to Lady Winter.

Lady Winter counterattacks.

to the hydra. As you can see, hydras dish it out and can take it, too. We don't have any hydras because there are so few water maps. Aqua's areas are probably the only areas they would be useful at.

The berserker, injured almost beyond recovery, finally succumbed to our wraiths' fear.

It seems that Aqua could care less, considering he hasn't used Mega Restore at all this battle.

Flimzy had been attacking a paralyzed hydra, when suddenly it broke out of its paralysis. Undaunted, the brave human leapt onto the monster's back and sliced its heads off with a frenzy I have only seen in our dwarven units.

Thus, another wildman joined our ranks.

Repeatedly meleeing hydras is taking a toll on Link.

A note on death:

Link died many battles ago, and yet he's still here. Why? Dead units are not deleted. They are simply put out of commission for the current battle. Next map, they'll be good as new. There is no penalty for a unit dying, except of course while they are dead they cannot fight and gain experience.

As an aside, this is not true for the enemy; when we kill an enemy unit, it is deleted from the enemy's unit roster, which is why the enemy can summon up an infinite amount of monsters when the unit roster total is 38.

The enemy will never bring out humanoid units. The only humanoid units he has are the ones pre-placed on the map.

I am not doing a Nuzlocke Challenge run (which would be a when-a-unit-dies-it's-dead-forever style of gameplay). When a unit dies for this game, I will simply put them on guard duty for the next battle to 'recover'.

38 damage to Euld. Again.

Euld is almost dead (because I forgot about him) and his own healing spell is too weak to save him, so remote assistance in the form of a Megarestore was required.

Somma has been attacking a paralyzed hydra with a short sword, when it finally occurred to us that an elf should be using a bow instead.

Limelle improved her goat-inducing spell.

Chaotic mages can learn earthquake spells, making them incredibly powerful. Or, they can continuously learn a spell like this instead... ugh.

Limelle's still young. There is hope.

This is the new Melt Earth.

HP + 70, Attack +30, Sp. Attack +23, Defense +5, Mobility +1

Scarn 28th - Evening

Limelle's new spell is working well.

Aqua has 350 HP.

This is how much Kefkai did to him.

Here's what Lady Winter did (she has a better weapon).

Guv'na improved his thunder spell.

Aqua is kind of a wuss.

Not quite Euld's level of ZAP, but not bad either.

Basically anyone guarding a castle is guaranteed one level up -- as long as you don't have too many guards in one place.

They are more likely to earn more levels in actual combat, however.
