Scarn 26th - Evening

Rogutaan has developed a new spell to muddle an enemy's mind.

It can confuse one enemy. Confused enemies usually don't move very far from where they are and just attack the nearest unit, enemy or ally. Confusion is not that useful since you have to be near the enemy to cast the spell on it anyway -- it's likely just going to attack the caster!

Boxxy liberated Yunas, the town directly south of our base castle.

This is a hint on Aqua's weakness. Basically, Fire and Water oppose each other, and Wind and Earth oppose each other. It's a two-way system, not a four-way like you'd see in other RPGs.

In effect, if we want to defeat the immortal Velonese, we'll need to find an ally who is also an immortal.

This is a hint on how to discover the elf city that was in that big forest a few battles ago.

Slayer is the name of dragon-rider Vian's sword. It's been lost to the ages.

The Light Power Staff isn't as good as the regular Power Staff because the regular Power Staff grants a healing spell to the unit carrying it.

This enemy wizard uses Freeze on Squishy for ~30 damage. Aqua's mages are not as much of a threat compared to Aracna's because they do not have earthquake-type spells.

Euld gained a level and received the level 4 ZAP spell. Only one more level in this spell and he has it maxed out.

It's a very powerful attack spell. Euld may not be good at healing, but he is good at hurtin'!

Max HP +76, Attack Power +18, Sp. Attack +9, Defense +1, Mobility +1

Our beloved hell hound has become a Cerberus. Now he has three heads to fetch with. That will be an interesting sight, I'm sure.

Scarn 26th - Night

Yumekai reminds us his magic is the only kind we have that can hit multiple enemies at once. Though I wonder if Squishy can now use his paralytic breath on three at once now?

Euld shows us his new spell, too.

Then Niah shows off how strong her freezing wind attack is.

The harpy's Freeze attack is very good against humanoids. It's too bad the harpy suffers from such low HP.

Another dwarf was promoted.

I think I have a soft spot for dwarves. I'll have to promote some elves and hobbits to make up for it before there are complaints.

Max HP +46, Attack Power +14, Defense +3

No mobility up for him :(

A note on hydras.

Hydras suck! By that I mean they are quite annoying. They are resistant to most types of damage, and they dish out a lot of damage to humanoid units (like 30-50 damage). The good thing is they are prone to paralysis skills and spells, and they have low mobility when they are not in water and marshes. They are Aqua's main unit and he summons as many as he can each turn. He also summons chimeras, which are similar to our manticores except, well, not as good.

Squishy was allowed to take a nap.

Kefkai murdered a helpless chimera.

I haven't said much about cockatrices. They are a new enemy unit that only Aqua summons. They are resistant to damage from humanoid units. The manticores seem to be good against them. Like Squishy, they have a normal attack and a special attack, so they can counterattack regardless of what kind of attack you use on them. The petrify attack does no damage but can petrify the target -- it is much like paralysis.

Cockatrices are also apparently not that resistant to paralysis.

If we had Krystal as our leader, we could summon our own cockatrices.

Magic attacks are also good against them. Euld inflicted 114 damage on this one with his Star Storm spell. That's a one-shot kill.

Niah is taking a risk to take out that mage.

Jim was sent to back her up.

Next turn -- Aqua's move

Now that our troops are near Aqua, the demon lord has finally taken personal, direct action against us.

He cast a spell that amplified his voice, and directed it at Jim.

This spell has a 100% chance to confuse its target. It also does a minor amount of damage (~25).

He is now our second Lich.

Max HP +51, Sp. Attack +18, Defense +7

The mage ran away to rest in Aqua's castle, and the enemy berserker, which is possibly the current greatest threat to us aside from Aqua himself, has taken no action.

At the beginning of your turn, your confused units will take action.

(28 damage to Niah)

Niah counters for 31 to Jim, and they both get exp. In fact, Niah got a level up from it.

I want Niah to kill off that mage, but she can't reach.

Thus begins operation kill-that-cockatrice. Euld can't reach it... yet.

Now he can! (paralyzed enemies do not block your movement path)

(99 damage Star Storm)

Oh, he didn't kill it. Drizzing could do it, but he might miss.

Let's make sure that it dies. Remember, magic never misses.

Poor mage never even got to cast a spell.

Guv'na shows off that he can cast magic from two hexes away.

Boxxy liberated the castle in the far south.

Aqua's turn

I assumed he was going to try to confuse Drizzing, but...

Frozen status is much like petrification and paralysis. A few turns from now and Yumekai will recover.

As I mentioned earlier, hydras are very good against humanoid units. Apparently this includes harpies, because it only took two to destroy her.

Manticores are very good against ghosts, as Drizzing has discovered the hard way.

In good news, Jim will recover from his confusion at the end of our next turn, so this is his last attack against us.
