Dark Wizard 30 (Tourla)

Oh yeah, after we beat Aracna, we were told our Staff of Light's power increased. Basically this means we can summon class 2 monsters. So, if we wanted a new dragon, we don't have to start it out as a dragon pup anymore; we can summon the next version up, the zombie dragon. However, we can only summon class 2 monsters that we already have. Since Squishy has not yet changed class, we can only summon an ordinary class 1 hell hound, for example, and since we never bothered with getting a hydra, we can only summon a class 1 hydra.

For some reason, we can get a class 2 skeleton. I'm not sure why since we do not have a skeleton at all.

A similar thing happens with hirelings, but with less flexibility. With the monsters, we have the choice to summon class 1 or class 2, but with hirelings, we are forced to skip the basic, classless stage and go straight to mage, priest, archer, or wildman. Although this seems like an advantage, the hired units now cost about 5x as much in gold, so in a way we were better off hiring new units before defeating Aracna.

Scarn 25th - Morning

Our victory in Cheshire has brought such a brightness into my life. However, the king has decided I should take over as treasurer. And, indeed, I have found ways to improve our budget.

Before end of turn:

After end of turn:

We are actually earning money now! This is mainly because we have taken two castles in the last battle. Castles are worth a lot of income.

With the money we have saved I purchased a map of the area for our tactical use. Yes, we are heading south of Quentin, the very castle we have started our campaign from, and we plan to circle our way south of the Insenior sea.

Our aerial scouts report that the resistance in the area is minimal, but the demon lord Aqua will surely show his might soon.

By 'show his might' I mean 'summon a buttload of hydras' -- his name is Aqua after all -- but I digress...

Our elf mage is a little strange, to say the least. Perhaps a wild mage? She can't seem to keep herself from casting magic,

even on an ally.

Scarn 25th - Evening

I regret to report that we have underestimated the enemy.

First, Limelle's magic failed to make the enemy wildman become a goat.

Zem tried a back attack on said wildman

that proved fatal to him.

We can now see that our units are under-equipped. Almost everyone is still wearing the same equipment they were hired with. The enemies are equipped much better, and so even though these are both wildman units -- and Zem is a higher-level one -- well, you can see what happened!

The king was very unhappy.

Very unhappy indeed to bring his magic to bear like that!

In retrospect, I should have a) used Blade Storm before Zem attacked, or b) had Squishy attack first to absorb the wildman's counterattack since his high HP would have allowed him to survive.

Although Guv'na is doing well,

another dwarf is not.

Scarn 25th - Night

Flimzy had been sent south to take the nearest village, expecting to attract the skeletons guarding it.

Instead, Bubba seems to have attracted them like a magnet.

Perhaps because he missed earlier he looked like a good target, heh.

Bubba has been fighting back. I feel that we can afford to hand out promotions now, though only just barely.

Limelle is doing well. The weakened enemy will be good training for new recruit Somma and also Ickiren the dwarf.

Flimzy may, however, be in trouble; company is coming his way to ensure we do not take this village.

We'll see what happens in the morning.

Scarn 26th - Morning

It seems the demons do not like to see dwarf mages, either. Guv'na was thier main target in the night. Fortunately his dwarven constitution allowed him to survive with minimal injury. They are only skeletons, after all, and we are seasoned skeleton-destroying machines.

Kefkai returned to normal and decided to take a break in the recently-liberated city to recover from his harrowing experience as a goat.

sorry bub Kefkai's not for hire

This won't be the last person we hear lamenting about the dragon-rider Vian. You cannot expect a long-dead, now-mythical hero to save you from everything, you know.

I think we found our church of evil.

Squishy, the scamp of a hell hound, stole Limelle's lunch, and so she is chasing after him to give him a taste of her magic.

Scarn 26th - Noon

Flimzy stayed back and Boxxy took care of the archer threat. We will soon liberate the next town.

Another dwarf has earned his promotion. It does concern me that every dwarf except Guv'na is turning into a chaotic wildman.

Also note the enemy mage, who failed a confusion spell on Fluffy, is now paralyzed by one of our wraiths.

Limelle earned a taste of her own medicine from Euld.
