Dark Wizard 33 (Jhelyle)

Our next destination is to the south.

Like the last battle, this will be very straightforward. We will cross the bridge to the city of Treal, and then proceed along the south road to Aqua's castle.

Our scouts report that Aqua has surrounded himself with two warlocks, a bishop, and a magician. Resistance on the way there is surprisingly minimal. A wildman, wizard, and a very small army of ordinary skeletons are at the city of Treal.

I'm looking forward to that rest the king promised, despite our recent revelry after reclaiming Cheshire. These sleepless nights are starting to wear at me.

They are starting to wear on our king, too. I noticed that he has spent much of his time with his eyes closed in silent contemplation. I dared to interrupt him when I saw him stir, and he informed me that he was performing magic. I knew, but it's my job to be concerned.

That he can harm the demon lord himself from such a distance tells me that our strength has grown considerably. Considering that the king is much older even than I...

A note on battle animations.

I'll try and show off battle animations more often, but I don't play with them on, so it will be rather hit or miss.

The game takes a long time to play and the battle animations make it take over twice as long due to the long load times. It also has a tendency to glitch the sound out so that it doesn't play at all and I haven't figured out how to fix it when it happens. Reloading hasn't worked.

Squishy has rushed down and intercepted the enemy wizard already. The wastelands around our castle make it difficult for our ordinary footsoldiers to make headway.

The king struck at the mage near Aqua to inform the demon lord that no one around him is safe.

My concern is that if the demon lords have such a spell... ! It does not bear dwelling on.

20 damage to Squishy

Squishy's counterattack

That's half the wildman's HP in one hit.

The enemy wizard ignored the mauling he received from our Cerberus and unleashed a hailstorm like I have never seen.

60~70 damage to Euld and Kefkai. He cast it from 4 hexes away.

Euld made short work of him,

and the wildman could not survive an attack by our beloved three-headed beast.

Our favorite, and currently only, hobbit bishop finally improved his heal spell for his efforts.

This does not make him a useful healer. This spell heals ~9 HP.

The skeleton looks so sad.

I said that Euld is our only hobbit cleric. Not so, or at least soon. We have a new recruit who plans to be a cleric.

Oddly, the man put his name down on the sign-up as a symbol, a "<3" which I'm told is a heart.

I overlooked this fault because we need every healer we can get.

You can also see how our humanoid units are stuck marching single-file through the road there. The areas east and west of it are wastelands and the movement speed through them is 1 hex / turn.

Scarn 30th - Noon

Our units have been slowed because the bridge was not built wide enough for more than one person to cross at a time.

Ladywinter liberated Treal.

We're working on it!

It's a puzzle.

Six letters.

_ _ _ _ _ _

F E

R E

U S T A R

that didn't help at all lady

Well, here's what we know. The 4th and 5th have to be the same. F, E, R, and E again are in it. And two letters from USTAR.

"SEFEAR" doesn't fit the nun's rule.

I accidentally said no.

Uh, well, Ladywinter never said she was good at puzzles!

This is dumb because it's a yes/no question so of course she'll get it right the next time.

That last part reminds me of the outtakes to a Gamera movie in which the guy says that they're going to attack Gamera and the girl says with a straight face, "That'll only piss him off."

Yeah, so, Yumekai is the only one with a fire spell, so let's give the staff to him later and give it a go.

Here is a suspicious-looking mountain.

Scarn 30th - Evening

So much for our resting after Treal. Our troops want to press on, though it's mostly because Squishy kept on going. The king is encouraging it, even. He keeps asking me for news about the sorceress, Susan. We have not yet heard anything except that she is in the Algain area. He is restless and I think he will stay that way until we find her and make sure that she is safe, considering we've only just set foot on Big Algain Island.

In good news Limelle spontaneously learned a powerful attack spell from her wild magic. She is well on her way to becoming as powerful as the enemy's warlocks.

And she is still a threat to our own units.

Siang 1st - Morning

It's been a month since we started to fight back against the demons. I was going to write something sentimental, but in fact there is little to say.

In fact, nothing special has happened all day, except, oh.

Harpies are so beautiful, and yet so fragile. There. There is my quota of brooding for the day.

Siang 1st - Noon

Squishy, Lady Winter, and Jim have been ordered to rest after taking medium damage from the hydra onslaught.

A trio of enemies have started coming from the northeastern path away from Treal, and so some of our troops split up to address the threat.

Limelle used this opportunity to try out her new spell.

Death wyrms seem to be able to hold themselves together better than the zombie dragons. Firehaze is able even to enter water, though he dares not go too far into it.

(hoping to make the warlock retreat by hurting him)

to Bubba (almost half his HP) who countered for a measly 8.

For the longest time I was sure that the cockatrices were just chickens melded with snakes, and the rumors of their petrification ability was just an exaggeration of someone being 'petrified with fear.'

How wrong I was.

How does a ghost turn to stone, anyway? Ah, best left unasked, I'm sure.

The enemy bishop's healing spell is the same level as Euld and Buklauu's so... it's nothing to worry about, actually.

36 damage to B. Mays. Thank goodness the undead are strong against earth-based spells!

Jim's counterattack instantly kills chimeras.

Siang 1st - Evening

Boxxy inches his way through the forest, and targets the enemy warlock.

His elven archer friend assists.

Somma's damage is not bad compared to Boxxy, for a level 1 archer.

The warlock is almost dead, but no one can reach him.

Banquo tried to paralyze the hydra, but failed. However, he did get his class change.

Mugenai demonstrates why it sucks to be anything but an elven archer: movement range in forests (Somma can move farther despite being a class level lower)

Then I remembered Squishy is a good fighter vs. humanoids.

Oh, did I mention Star Storm & Solar Ray can be used at range? They can, provided the casting unit has not moved. So, Euld and Buklauu are sitting tight, sniping injured hydras. If we can defeat three hydras per turn, we are keeping up with Aqua's summoning rate for them.

Level 3+ heal spells can cure petrification and paralysis. Both Euld and Buklauu have only level 2 heal.

Rogutaan is the only one with a good healing spell.

This Hydra was probably just going to rest but I didn't want to chance losing 'Heart' since if he was attacked he would die instantly.

Aqua's turn.

52 damage to Boxxy

to Boxxy.

My turn, but Boxxy gets the first move.

Boxxy inflicts 43 damage on the enemy sniper, who counterattacks

for 59 damage.
