Dark Wizard 41

After Mugenai and Zem defeat one of the Griffins,

and Limelle weakens the bishop,

Niah makes up for yesterday's failure.

Tadleer continues his paralysis streak.

Shinobi Knife, go!

Attack +12, Defense +4, Mobility +1

The priest is probably not much of a threat, especially after Buklauu's attack left it crippled.

Unfortunately, our Cerberus gave the monk another chance at life.

'Heart' shows us that his heart is truly into his work.

Since it is noon, Ladywinter tried to see the rumored spirit, but she also has no luck.

Our king sent the priest to his end. I tell you, he did this with unnatural relish, too...

Sheena apparently could not stand to see her monk meet a similar end.

The darkness emanating from Velonese's homeland, which is merely right across the southern peninsula, has been giving all of our troops a hard time making their attacks connect.

57 damage to MJ.

Griffins, like manticores, are effective against the undead.

Just to show how Skeleton Knights are not much of a threat to anyone, even to a squishy elf warlock.

And especially not to Link.

39 damage to Link.

56 damage to Buklauu.

Link's new shield really makes a difference.

At the end of her turn, Sheena summons a Chimera (weak), another Griffin, Great Manticore, and a Harpy.

The Shinobi Knife is powerful, isn't it? I bet if it was a Shinobi Sword, or Katana, or whatever, it would be even stronger.

I love seeing 3-figure damages.

This time, Squishy carefully takes aim

before ripping the monk's throat out.

Tadleer is still going strong.

To the Griffin.

Archers are incredibly effective against flying units. When they use bows, that is.

After a Solar Ray, the mage was easily dispatched.

Searching the ruins, Guv'Na found a Hero's Shield. I wonder who it once belonged to. Dragon Rider Vian?

Did I already say manticores are good against undead? Well, they are!

39 damage to Krief.

The enemies decide to swarm around Link, their greatest nemesis.

The chimera can do little harm.

Link takes 15 damage.

Surely a powerful blow to our Holy Army, to lose our Paladin so soon after he was ordained as one.

Siang 15th - Evening

During the night, perhaps inspired by Link's sacrifice, Buklauu took a chance, rushing in to fill the gap at Sheena's side.

Our liches are surely inspired.

The Hero Shield provides 20 Defense. Compare that to the Large Shields we just bought, which provide 6... It is the best shield available in the game. This is the only one there is, too.

Uh, I'm not sure why Guv'Na has a short sword equipped instead of the power staff.

(Ifailatthisgame)

47 damage to Buklauu.

My greatest fear is realized. The enemy does have the Blade Storm spell, our king's favorite spell that destroys from afar! However, it seems Sheena is only using it on nearby threats. Hopefully it stays that way. Not that I want our brave men and women hit by it, but they are trained to deal with that, unlike aides like me.

A class 2 newbie archer without a bow is stronger than a class 3 skeleton.

Actually, the game considers archers 'neutral fighters.' Probably just a quirk of translation but it's worth noting.

One of the manticores that helped defeat Link flew all around our troops to strike at Ladywinter, an act it will likely soon regret. The way she swings her new scimitar around around... Maybe it's not as threatening as an axe, but it's certainly close to it!

Siang 16th

By the morning, Buklauu is deserving of magical assistance for his bravery.

The shrine on the far southern peninsula is where we are sending Guv'Na.

Our troops have made a lot of progress in surrounding Sheena,

and neutralizing her remaining units.

Euld moves into perfect placement for his meteor spell.

Blade Storm: 41 damage to Rogutaan.

Seeing a break in the fighting, we finally send someone in to liberate Asai.

Cheshire kingdom or Cheshire castle? We need details, man! The former means it could be anywhere!

Unfortunately, it seems he meant the former.

Actually, as far as I know, staying at the inn in town is akin to using the REST command.

There is also a CAMP option at the inn, which costs more and presumably heals more.

You can advance world time by using the inn, too. A normal stay advances by one time period, while CAMP causes it to advance an entire day. At least, that's how it works on search parties; I've never used it outside of one so I don't know if it does this on a regular map. I'll test this in the future.

Perhaps we can find this bard and get him to compose a song about our victories. It could help morale! Though I can't think of any rousing song played on a harp...

Considering there are only two out-and-out gods in this world: Sabrina of Light and Arliman of Darkness, it's pretty obvious your friend went over to the Dark Side.

We'll have to complete this on a search party.

(the enemy Great Manticore)

Sheena has lost all of her ground.

Then Guv'Na reached the southern city.

And, of course, after I outfit most of our warriors with a large shield, the blacksmiths come up with a better shield.

Soldier Shield provides 8 defense. The Large Shield provides 6.

It would also help if we knew who or what Dandalea was.

This is the second time Runvail was mentioned. The harp-playing troubadour is from there.

Ah! This old man could be our key to reaching Velonese's island.

Speaking of that island...

Nearing the end of the day, we've surrounded Sheena completely.

Oh, and Guv'Na reached that southern shrine, but the old man there was reportedly unhelpful.

Holy voice acting, Batman!

Sheena isn't quite as easy as Aqua and Aracna for Squishy to absorb the blow. That's because she is wind element and it opposes his element, earth.

Of the four demon lords, she has the lowest HP (175), but despite this she is resilient.

Bubba only does 3 damage to her.

Our dragons are 'okay' against her. They are the opposite element to her.

Still, Jim does more than the dragon.

Boxxy's attack.

Mugenai's attack. His higher class level and better bow make a difference.

Euld's meteor did 38 damage.

Buklauu follows with a Solar Ray for 5 damage, leaving her with 7 HP, and there are no more units available to attack her.

Oh, except for one~

Our guards get experience. In fact, they got more action than some of our deployed units!

Flimzy didn't get a level.

PLOT RECAP:

Velonese was once an apprentice to the great wizard Gilliam. He started learning dark magic, and Gilliam banished him to the southern island of Viosdia. There, he was to guard the Jewel of Darkness, which houses the evil god of Darkness, Arliman, for all eternity. To accomplish this, Velonese was made immortal.

Velonese decided he didn't like his fate and now he is trying to break the seal on the Jewel and bring Arliman back into our world. To buy time, Velonese also created the four demon lords that we're battling right now.

Thing is, we can't go straight to Viosdia to stop him because plot because this weird old guy at the shrine won't calm the raging sea for us to cross onto the island until we've defeated all of these demon lords.

Having defeated two of the demon lords, we're approximately halfway through the game right now -- maybe a little less than that, because Velonese himself is not without defense. He is a great wizard, after all, and, uh, also immortal...

Oh, and also, don't forget that our leader isn't the true king of our fair kingdom; he's the vampire lord Amon in disguise. I'm not sure if I made that clear earlier, so. Amon only wants to defeat Velonese to rule the world himself!
