Let's Play Dark Wizard!

Index --- Next

Dark Wizard is a hex-map turn-based RPG. There is no contemporary game like this at all. Period. Brigandine is close, but not quite.

It was released on the Sega CD, near the end of its life, and so it's rare to find someone's who's heard of it, let alone played it.

It's a great game and deserves a look. The graphics may be dated, but it's the gameplay that draws in the hardcore strategy fan.

The basic plot:
The God of darkness, Arliman, and the Goddess of light, Sabrina, created the world. But Arliman was jealous of Sabrina, and thus started a war. Arliman lost and was imprisoned in a jewel.

The grand wizard Gilliam caught his apprentice, Velonese, using forbidden dark arts, and, as punishment, gave him eternal life and sent him to an island to guard the jewel of darkness for all eternity.

But the jewel called to Velonese... and through its power he summoned four elemental demon lords whom he used to take over the world.

The land is engulfed in darkness, with only one stronghold still free of the demons' control.

(The real plot is a little deeper than this. Here's the in-game movie of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvAZTlEK68A. It's kind of long and boring, though.)
