Hacks and stuff, oh my!
Over the New Year's weekend two different sets of hacks became rampant in Mabinogi NA. From what I understand, basically, if a hacker could guess any item in your inventory, they could use that item to 'summon' your character to their desired location, and in the process, your item would be destroyed.
Any item includes potions, equipment, anything. Even personalized stuff like upgraded armor and spirit weapons.
It was based on the Camp Kit item. So, if you were in a situation in which you couldn't use a camp kit, you were safe. Examples of safety: being in a dungeon or mission, doing commerce, using a skill, having absolutely nothing in your inventory, already having a camp kit set.
As far as I know, the hacks started on Friday 12/30 and ended on Sunday 1/1 when Nexon took the the game down. The Nexon / devCAT team (?) worked surprisingly quickly (considering how long it took to fix the lockout issue), and finally on Monday the game was back up and running and this hack was stopped.
Everyone who logged in during the time received 5,000 NX (5$ in Nexon credits), although I haven't received mine -- perhaps they should specify the exact time window --- and anyone who lost an item will be given an additional 5,000 NX for a 10,000 NX total.
However, anyone who lost anything now has to send a ticket in to Nexon, because the items were not restored. There was not a significant rollback like what happened over summer. To log a ticket, log in on the nexon website and click "Get Support" on the top bar and then "My Tickets" and "Submit a Ticket." Put your character name, server name, and bug/glitch as the ticket's subject and the word "Mugworts" in the summary somewhere to speed up the recovery process. Also, of course, include what items were destroyed, the hacker's name if you happen to know, and include the exact date if you can remember.
But that's not all. When the game was brought up, everyone's Hebona Robe, Rosemary Gloves, and any Nuadha set items were completely wiped from the server. For those who don't know, these items are rare and incredibly valuable. To see them disappear in the blink of an eye like that --- and not related to the hacking incident, as far as everyone knows --- is surely painful to everyone who had any of these items.
RIP my pink Hebona Robe. I hardly wore you...
I had two Hebona Robes and both are gone. I got them from the Hamlet event and the Shoot the Sun event. So, these were items obtained legitimately. It is speculated that they were wiped because, as high value items, they were common targets for duping, but of course no one knows for sure what's happened to them and Nexon has not commented, as far as I know.
But I'm sure I'm not in as much pain as the Nuadha set people. To get this set, you had to collect 9 coins that came from gachapons. Gachapons are basically random box items; you open the box, and you get a random item from the box's item pool. Certain items have higher and lower chances to obtain, too. One of the coins, the Nao coin, was exceptionally rare and worth, what, even hundreds of millions of gold according to some player ads I saw. Considering each Gachapon usually costs at least $1 USD, real money, well...

The best I can say is to log a ticket just like above; put it under the bugs/glitches with your character name and server name and explain that you're missing the item(s) after the January 2nd 2012 maintenance.
