Dark Wizard 60

We rapidly retake Nortia castle.

The king decided to use the Staff of Light to summon up an ally. He brought forth a skeleton.

Because we've lost a dragon and the griffin/pegasus due to them being combined with their respective rider, we have room for two more units in the army. I decided to use a skeleton since that's one of the monsters available to us that hasn't been represented yet.

We also hire one last man, or rather, elf, an archer named Akatzki. When asked about his name, he says his ancestors were Shinobi. I'm skeptical - ninja elves? Regardless, we outfit him with the crossbow that Sansha found.

There were a few other people who volunteered to join my army, but at this point I don't think we need any more warlords, so I went with the archer. Since he can stay in the back lines, he should be able to survive despite being only class 2.

Retaking any castle taken by Velonese is a joke. The warlord does not have Mega Restore so he cannot heal himself. He also only has 200 HP. Basically I sent all my flying units straight for him and tore him apart. It was a waste of time.

He has a point, but my assumption is that if we don't retake it, he'll use it as a point of attack on other regions.

Anyway, on to the main story!

We don't have much information on what lies on the Isle of Raven. Under a thick fog all day, every day, we can hardly penetrate it, even with our flying scouts.

Our hope is that now that the demon lords have been defeated, the hermit at the shrine will be willing to aid us.

The king hands the proof of their defeat to Vespera.

By morning she has quickly traversed the distance to the shrine.

VIDEO TIME:

Or read the text below:

I do recommend you watch the video because the voice acting for Velonese is so bad it's funny.

Gilliam? You're looking far more corpse-like than you did last time.

Velonese makes an appearance. I assume it's an illusion.

No threat by the Big Bad is complete without maniacal laughter.

Use the Fog Chime on the forest peninsula to summon another cutscene. Here, you can also see that we cannot fly over the mountains onto the island.

VIDEO TIME AGAIN:

Or read it below:

Sad face.

"Trade my life"? I thought you were already a ghost. Why else are you glowing blue?

I wonder why they even bothered to name the sea beast. A google search tells me it's not from mythology.

Gilliam's last bit of magic created a bridge for us to cross with. It's not the sort of bridge I was expecting.

It's only a small opening,

and Velonese's troops crowd around to stop us.

The perfect place to bottleneck us once again.

We have a disadvantage in that we can only bring out 4 units every turn on this map. The map boundary has cut off the top two hexes of our castle. But it's not a big deal because of the bottleneck.

The battle will be bitter.

Or maybe not? I distinctly remember that same spell causing us so much grief so long ago. It's a testament to our strength that we can shrug off even powerful magic.

NB: Blizzard is level 4 ice, and Ice Storm is level 5, so this observation may not be accurate.

With the helps of Susan's magic, we are moving forward.

Though it takes over a day, we finally break through.

You don't need to see a turn-by-turn fight through the bottleneck. Just know it was not challenging, but it took a while.

Here's a new spell: level 4 fire. It hits the target and each hex next to it.

It seems Velonese has summoned up a dragon army.

The going is slow across the bony bridge. I suspect our men want to be sure of their footing. No one wants to fall into the raging sea!

Seriously most units can only move one hex at a time across it. It's aggravating!

Meanwhile, those in front begin to slay the dragons.

In no time there is nothing left to stand in our way, and Velonese himself is in sight.

We expected fouler magic than a simple Hellfire spell. Or maybe he is going easy on us?

One of our priests suggested a goat might have an easier time crossing. I did not condone this test.

We named our skeleton Sol as a tribute to the sun. It doesn't make much sense, I know.

In all honesty the skeleton will be of no value to us by the end of the game. I doubt he'll get his first class change before then.

Well, we haven't seen this spell before, but it's no threat. It did 27 damage to Susan.

Two can play at magic!

Not pictured:

I spent the whole turn throwing everything I could at Velonese, and the next turn he used Mega Restore on himself. He has a very high Defense rating to go with his massive HP.

I did this again the next turn (with battle animations turned off), expecting him to use Mega Restore again.

Wind Bolt is a spell leader Robin has. Hits three targets with wind damage.

Uh, Velonese? Are you sure about not using Mega Restore? You're looking a little peaked.

Yeah? Well, okay.

Vespera took Gilliam's words to heart, but it turned out to be an image. Velonese is waiting for us in person at castle Avisis.

But if the image is so strong, how much stronger the true wizard?
